TEACHER WORKSHOPS FOR THE 2018-2019 SCHOOL YEAR
Urban Farming at Vizcaya
Monday, September 10th, 2018
Eight-hour workshop to train 4th and 5th grade educators to include farming, agriculture, nutrition and healthy choices in the curriculum. The workshop will be divided in sections that will focus on: Agricultural history, urban farming and its relevance today, engaging students in outdoor settings, curricular activities based on urban farming and food production, planting and harvesting best practices (hands-on), and preparation of simple recipes with students.
Teachers will have the opportunity of returning with 35 students for a student workshop with free admission and transportation. The student program will take place twice a month on the 2nd and 3rd Wednesday of each month from October 2018 to May 2019 (15 programs in an eight-month period). Students will be at the Vizcaya Village and use the Kitchen Garden to learn about urban farming and nutrition. Fee: $20.00 credit card only (no cash or checks). Includes breakfast, lunch and all materials.
Design and Engineering

Seven-hour workshop to train 3rd, 4th and 5th grade educators to include design, architecture and engineering in the curriculum. The workshop will be divided in sections that will focus on: building Vizcaya, Vizcaya’s unique engineering, geometry and shape patterns in Vizcaya’s design, symmetry and perspective at Vizcaya, principles of design and architecture, model building and blue print making.
Participants will have the opportunity of returning with 35 students for a student program with free admission and transportation. The student program will take place twice a month on the 1st and 4th Wednesday of each month from October 2018 to May 2019. Students will be at the Main House and the formal Garden of Vizcaya. Fee: $20.00 credit card only (no cash or checks). Includes breakfast, lunch and all materials.
Educator Family Day

On Saturday, March 23th, Vizcaya Museum and Gardens will open its doors to educators from public and private schools in Miami-Dade County. That day, the museum will have free admission tickets* available to Miami-Dade County teachers and principals and 3 family members!
Educators and their families are encouraged to enjoy Vizcaya year-round through our community and family programs, listed on our website. The museum also invites teachers and students to engage with art, history and the environment outside the classroom through school tours and programs.
*A limited amount of individual free admissions will be available. Educators, principals and their family members will be admitted for free on a first come, first served basis.
